About the Role:
We seek a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Educational Psychologist (AEP) to join our team in supporting children and young people to achieve their full potential. This role will provide an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about educational psychology and aims to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young learners, particularly those with additional needs. As an AEP, you will work closely with our Educational Psychologists (EPs), schools, and families to provide psychological support, assessments, and interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist qualified Educational Psychologists in assessments, consultations, and interventions.
- Support the planning, developing, and implementing evidence-based interventions that promote learning, emotional well-being, and social development.
- Gather information from teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to help inform psychological assessments.
- Help create individualised support plans for students with special educational needs (SEN) or disabilities.
- Provide input into multi-disciplinary team meetings, sharing insights and information about pupils’ progress and needs.
- Assist in training school staff and parents on behaviour management, mental health, inclusive teaching strategies and many more topics.
- Contribute to research and evaluation projects to improve psychological practices in schools.
- Maintain accurate records and reports per service requirements and data protection guidelines.
- Promote inclusion and work to reduce barriers to learning for vulnerable children and young people.
Essential Requirements:
- An honours degree in psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) or an equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated interest in child development, educational psychology, or special education needs (SEN).
- Previous experience working with children, young people, or families in educational, health, or social care settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with children, parents, school staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- An understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Eligible for registration with the **Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)** as an Educational Psychologist in the future.
Desirable:
- Prior experience as a teaching assistant, support worker, or in a related educational/psychological field.
- Knowledge of local education authority policies and procedures regarding SEN and disability support.
- Understanding of psychological assessments and interventions.
- A commitment to pursuing further training or qualifications in Educational Psychology.
